Whale Bones
24x30 Oil Painting on canvas, custom wood frame.
The whale bones were carefully placed in the area around, Whaler's Cove," in Pt. Lobos, Carmel, California. There were also the cooking pots, used to boil the flesh from the whales in order to skim off the oil, which was used in whale lamps for lighting. The whaling station was actually used during the peak whaling period of the late 1800's, until Petroleum was discovered and replaced the use of whale oil. Thank heavens the new form of fuel was discovered so we still have some whales left in the ocean. Now they are a protected by conservation efforts.
